hi Stef,

Thanks a lot for your care of us.
But you can see that the streets in HCMC always busy, the speed for motorbike in town is very very slow, so you will not get accident with such slow speed (sure it's not absolutely).
Moreover, the helmet block our sight, and it's easy to get accident in crowed streets in HCMC. I myself goto work from Phu Nhuan Dist. to Dist.4 by bike every day without helmet. Never had any collision.
If you drive too fast, you are zigzaging, careless driver, still get hurt even wearing helmet.
And the number of motorbike in big cities of vietnam is overload for such small treets here. In my opinion, the rule of wearing helmet in boulevard is not wrong at all, but for busy streets in town still need consideration. There are many relevant fators.

Anyways, i am very high appreciated your kind heart.
And I would like to come RMIT this sunday if no rain ;)

  Best wishes,
  Ha

Dear Ha and other helmet haters,

I do not know you and I guess you don't know me, but I could not resist replying your mail.

I can not believe the reluctance of educated Vietnamese people to wear a helmet! The argument I often heard that Vietnam is different and people just do not want to wear helmets ('rice cookers') and never will, is not a strong one: the Vietnamese are not different in this.

How do you think the 65 million Thai and the 240 million Indonesians reacted when they were told they had to wear a helmet. There were even riots in Indonesia when the helmet law was introduced. Two countries with a similar climate as Viet Nam, making it uncomfortable to wear a helmet and yes also Thai and Indonesian women do not want to ruin their beautiful modelled hair and look like a peasant!
Now in 2006 almost all motorbikers in these countries wear a helmet and think it is normal to wear a helmet and protect themselves, the number of traffic deaths and brain injuries have dropped dramatically.

Everyday an average of 58 Viet Namese die in traffic and 100 people are permanently disabled (2004). According to estimates at least 40% of these deaths and disabled can be prevented by wearing helmets. You! educated Viet Namese, start the change...protect your intelligence! Be a little bit less cool on the road... and you are less likely to become a statistic!

This is not to lecture but just because I care about my Viet Namese friends and specially the ones who promote Ultimate Frisbee, the greatest sport in the world!

  With kind regards,

  Stef

Saturday 2nd, is OK for me.
We should go early to avoid the UV sun at noon (bad for beauty :))))
Please confirm your presence by Thu 26 so I can book a bus soon. Sep 2nd is a high season and we have to plan things in advance.
Cheers,
Xuan.

Since this is an "extra curricular" activity, I think we should plan it for Saturday (Sept. 2). We'll keep the Sunday game at RMIT as usual.

6:00am is a bit early. How about 7 or 7:30?

cheers,

David

Thank you for your interest, Lester.
I'm thinking about kicking off our Singapore Open Tournament with a one-day trip to Ho Coc Beach. Scroll down for more information:
Where/what on earth is Ho Coc?
Ho Coc Beach is 170 km and 3,5 hours drive from Sai Gon where the beach "is bluer than the sky". The beach is quiet, white and long (500m). One side is the sea, the other side is forest green. (One add-in value is we can drop by Binh Chau hot spring water on our way home to wash away our ultimate sweat).
  When?
  Sunday, 3 September, 2006 .
  What's the iteniary?
6:00 am . sharp: Leave for Ho Coc
9:30 am: Arrive in Ho Coc
  10:00 am: Game starts
  12:00: Lunch
  1:00 pm: Game resumes
5:00 pm : Home sweet home.
Please confirm your seat ASAP so I can estimate the total number and rent a bus.
I already feel the soft sand, sun, water and breeze. So cool!!

  Go Ultimate!!!!
  Xuan.

    Hi all,

It's double the normal fun this weekend:

Frisbee... on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 11:00am at RMIT. Come enjoy some good old-fashioned skills drills, with a pick-up game to top it off.

Frisbee... on Sunday afternoon from 3:30 to 6:00pm at RMIT. Last week we set a new record with more than 30 people! Needless to say, there was no lack of subs or sideline commentators. This week we may try splitting into 2 games...

Who's got the watermelon, Tino?

cheers,

David
