Yo SUC! Yesterday's games were both fun-filled and competitive. Not only
that, the right mix of intensity and competition on the field was observed
quite well. We have also tried to learn more about proper rules. And by this
I mean latest tourney rules (a.k.a. 11th edition UPA).

This is a reading of the 11th edition for us to rectify a violation from one
of my co-team members (Team Yellow Submarine Boom Boom) --> no worries, our
team is trying to do its house cleaning and we're looking at this
constructively:

"Disc space" is now a marking/ defense violation. The new definition of disc
space now includes provisions against wrapping one's arms around the thrower
and straddling the pivot foot. This is done by defining disc space as the
space between the thrower and "any line segment between two points of the
marker's/ defender's body" (two points meaning the thrower's fingertips and
the marker's/ defender's torso or arms).

What's the benefit of knowing this? --> The fact that this is now a call has
the added benefit that if the thrower is being fouled on the mark, he or she
can choose to call the disc space violation instead of calling a foul.

Why it is better to call it a marking violation than a foul? --> A "marking
violation" (e.g. disc space, fast count, double team, and vision blocking)
can be called an unlimited number of times during a stall count. The marker/
defender then has to drop their count by one. Also, if a marking violation
is called, the marker/ defender is not allowed to resume their count until
he or she rectifies the violation.

I strongly encourage the team captains to explain the above to their
members. And I promise to keep an eye on the actual applications of the 11th
edition as we continue to see the sweet action of our very first Summer
League. This is your ultimate wizard, saying "until the next reading of the
11th edition..."
