A few distorted thoughts about starting ultimate in 007...

 

I am writing this email thinking about finally playing for my home team for
the first time (yes no more durians, bitch!). So we will probably make it to
two team tourneys this year: Bali Nusantara Cup and the WFDF Asia-Oceania
Regionals in Singapore (or whichever place wins the bid). My first question
is do we have players? And by players I mean with fire and commitment, with
a drive to win that never over-rides his/ her teammates or his/ her
opponent's right to have fun. Then I'm beginning to think about
try-outs...and realize I hate getting involved in a seriously serious
competitive team or by winning at all costs. A cool head and with the right
spirit on succeeding should be the approach. 

 

So David needs to recruit, shit. 

 

Lemme tell you something about the Bali tourney--the biggest shocker of all
Bali tourneys was the comeback of Saipan team last year. From being the 6th
seeded team (out of 7) in 2005 with most of their players having 1 year
playing experience to being in the finals against Freakshow in 2006. And I
confirm the mantra: "Impossible is nothing."  Then as I walked to work this
morning I started thinking Team Vietnam in the finals in Bali.

 

I don't want to say "it's only a game." I hate that. I want to shout, "for
the love of god it's a game!" Dance on the field like your life depended on
it, and dance to lift up your teammates and opponents alike. Sometimes
you'll shout "contest, bitch." Sometimes you'll say "sorry, no contest." And
most of the time you don't need to look at the scoreboard, just play the
game.

 

Bali and WFDF Regionals! Shit, I feel the grass on my face. Two team
tournaments for 007. I'm psyched thinking about the next opponent we will
dance with. Their moment and ours.

 

We will triumph.

P.S. Teams for Bali will be as follows:

Definitely coming: Discindo A, Discindo B, Freakshow, DiscKnights, Guam,
Saipan, Vietnam (7 teams)

Possibly coming: Durians (what, are they coming?), Shanghai, Manila,
Bangkok, Hong Kong, an Australian team or two (6-7 teams)
