Dear Friends,
Here’s a quick recap from Manila for all the Vudoo fans out there:
Vudoo’s training paid off with a huge upset of Freakshow to start off
the tournament on Saturday morning. Down 7-2 in the second half, Vudoo
remained calm, re-focused, seized the momentum, and came storming back
for a 10-9 victory over one of the top teams in Asia. It was very
sweet. We then had a decent first half against Black Flag, a team
comprised entirely of bona-fide all-stars from Asia and the US. Though
they beat us with an 11-3 score, we had a lot of chances on the goal
line that we didn’t quite convert, and the final score could just as
easily been 11-6 or something half respectable like that.
Unfortunately, we then lost our focus in the afternoon (was it due to
the lasagna lunch?), inexplicably losing to a C-pool team named
Cherifer (???!!!) which cost us a chance to go to the A-pool playoffs.
Yeah, we’re all still kind of baffled by that one. ;o) And then we
decided to lose to a few other weaker teams on Sunday, too (Disc
Knights & Dharma Bums), just in case the humility gained and the
excruciating anguish from losing the Cherifer game wasn’t enough!
On the bright side, everyone’s physical fitness was great, and our
skill level has clearly improved. And we proved to ourselves that we
do have the ability to beat top teams… which means that we are one
step closer to being one of those teams! Now we need to work a bit on
our mental toughness, consistency, and developing good habits on
offense and defense. So our goal of a semi-final finish will have to
wait another year, but we’re headed in the right direction.
Next up – Malaysian Open!
